It was written by scholars from each Nordic country, thus covering the different languages and cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It includes a chronology, introductory essays on each country, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 400 cross-referenced entries on major persons and films, pan-Scandinavian entries on film genres, themes, and subjects such as animation, ethnicity, migration and censorship.
