It presents complex problems of dating, authorship, and textual transmission, above all in its relationship to the revised version of the play published in 1616. These two landmark quartos, known as the A-text and the B-text, are now offered by the Malone Society in new facsimile editions. Doctor Faustus 1604 is a 1:1 colour photographic reproduction of the only surviving copy of the first Quarto of the A-text, which is now in the Bodleian Library.
